Unable to connect using PPTP

I am trying to connect a Mandrake 10.1 box to my ISP using PPTP.

The Mandrake wizards have problems and I could not use the wizard as it does not allow you to enter your own ISP. You can only choose from a list.

I set up eth0 manually to be 10.0.0.1. This worked. I can see my speedtouch Home modem, ping it and access the setup via http://10.0.0.138.

I then followed the LQ Wiki to set up PPTP. However when I try to connect I get:

LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests.

While the PC is trying to connect I see activity on the modem, with the LAN, Rx and Tx LEDs flashing.

Suggestions appreciated.

After posting the above I added

name = "davcefai@keyworld" to the start of the /etc/ppp/options.adsl file.

Now I seem to be connecting, I get an IP address and the DNS servers are listed but I can't go anywhere.

route -n gives me 3 lines, one of which is 0.0.0.0 through 10.0.0.138 (my modem)

Do I need to add a route to my ISP?
