Two identical subnets and no physical router

Hi there,

here are the rules for a hard question to answer:

I have 2 identical subnets in 10.1.1.0 I want to keep seperated and which I cannot change for various reasons. I must put only one linux box in between with eth0 having for instance IP 10.1.1.1 and eth1 having for instance IP 10.1.1.2. I cannot put any physical router between any of the subnetworks and that linux box. I need to use this linux box as a "router" between those 2 identical subnetworks.

I'm lost with all advanced networking solutions.
Do you have any idea how to do this ? Must I use virtual interfaces, VPN ? Bridge connections... ???

Thanks a lot in advance,

Regards

This wouldn't be a router, as you aren't changing layer 3, only layer 2, so it's a bridge you need... http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/BRIDGE-STP-HOWTO/index.html
