Please help. My ISP provider enabled a service to provide a TV signal over its broadband network. Where can I find an information about such services - technical informations, how to configure a connection. Particularly I am interested in is it possible to connect the decoder behind a router. The ISP doesn't help much. There are very few information provided.
No information at all. I received a decoder and a modem and a simple windowze application. And an advice "do it yourself". This is why I am posting here. The decoder doesn't work. Luckily I have a Linksys router. But that's the question: can I connect TV behind the router? I found somewhere a discussio about a "bridge", "vpc0", "vpc1" but I don't understand this.
Generally you should connect modem to your Internet line, then decoder and router to modem. Configuration depends. What is name of this ISP and service you have?
As I posted before the modem doesn't work. I tried to connect using this modem but it returned an error. To tell the truth I don't want to use the external modem. The Linksys has its own modem. The ISP is Dialog. The service it's "all in one" TV+internet. I suspect that the problem is that the decoder - Motorola VIP.. - leases a local net IP - but I think that the IP for the decoder is leased directly from ISP - I mean in fact there are two IP's - one for my internet (PPPoE) and the second for the decoder. I think that I will be able to solve the problem if I allow "free passing" through the router. For the connection with the decoder the router should work only as a modem. All functionality like DHCP should be disabled for that particular connection. But these are only my guesses.
I don't known how Dialog did it. Maybe thay block somehow custom modems, they should give you suitable technical information how to connect, persuade them. Anyway, better will be if you ask in polish forums, as this is local country question, not really related with Linux Networking.
Thank's for advice. I have a look at polish forums - I found there only guesses. I am posting here - I am sure the idea TV+internet
is old, the technology is old, the decoder from Motorola looks old - and ISP don't want to help. So theses are well known solution.
An intresting question is the decoder. There is a USB interface but software is very limited. I have to look for the way how to hack
the software and install new. Some people suggest that the original software gives ability to record via USB.
