I installed Slack 9.1. After some trouble, it's finally runing. Now i'm trying to surfe the web, but i can't. I have three machines, one running XP and the other three W98. installed Slack on a fourth. They are conected through a LAN. To access the internet i must get into the LAN. ¿How do i do that? As you can see, i'm a newbie, and to be honest, have no idea about what to do. Already installed Samba, and apparently is running fine, but ¿how do i know? made the config file, runned smbd -D, and... well, the thing is not working. ¿What am i missing? been is this for too long (many days) and even thouhg i'm learning quite a lot (wich is fun) i would like to see some progress!
At least, a set of steps would be greatly appreciated. I've read too many manuals, and what i need is something like: first, config this. Then run that. After, boot. now do the following... I'll read the manuals later to get the details. I'm kind of desperate...
u should give some more details, what actually u wanna do?
if the prob is about connecting , do the following things
1. check whether network daemon is running or not-
i never used slackware so i cant tell u much about how!! anyway these r some commands
>which network // this will give u location of network command generally in /sbin
>/sbin/network status //this will tell u whether n/w daemon is running or not
>ifconfig //this will show u the no. of NIC's currently configured along with some useful details
2. run netconf or linuxconf to configure ip address, subnet mask, hostname, etc.
now n/w id of the ip should be same as ur win machines
or
u can use ifconfig command to configure NIC also //see manual page of ifconfig for more details
3. restart network daemon using
>/sbin/network restart
4.now try to ping to windows m/c using ip address
>ping x.x.x.x
