Angry Trying to Install linux service

I've been up and donwn this forum but I can't find a way that works. I'm trying to install the samaba service (deamons smb and nmbd) I've also went to the book store to find a book on samba and it told me to type this at the command line "rpm -ivh /mnt/cdrom/redhat/rpms/samba*" and that not working also I don't know what cd to use with that command. the command just says nothing not even an error. Can some one help me ...

Thanks in adv ...

I use to run Red Hat 7.3; as I recall, samba was installed by default. Use the chkconfig command to see if your smb daemons are on or off (type 'chkconfig --list | grep smb' or just 'chkconfig --list').

chkconfig is specific to the Red Hat and Mandrake (and SuSE too?). You can use this command to turn services on and off. I can't remember the options for it, so type 'man chkconfig' for more explanation.

I have don it with no help at all cause I'm a computer genius.... ha ha ha only one problem I'm not making a 6 figure salary .... uh ... uh ... well any ways I did it me me me. I did it and no one can take credit for it but ... me ha. Well I have to give a shout out to all the peon Holla back.
na just kidding you know ya my peps

Only one problem know. Am I sure its installed I run the chkdsk --list cmd and it shows the smb service the also says "0ff,1ff,2ff,3ff,4ff,5ff and 6ff" right beside it in colums. also I can't find "nmbd service" when I run the same cmd.

But one thing though it says the service is running I think when I type "service smb restart", it say ok in green righg beside it.
