im using linux mint and get internet wirelessly from the router downstairs. i have xbox live and get internet by following the instructions from this page:

BirdyMan, under step 5 of the instructions, called "making it permanent", it tells you how to make sure these settings will not be lost when you reboot. Did you follow these? What problem / errors are you getting at bootup that prevent the configuration?

Since Mint is a Debian-based distro, it probably uses the Debian procedure to add your startup scripts (not using the /etc/rc.d/rc.local script). There is a description of how to get your script into the bootup process here: http://www.debian.org/doc/FAQ/ch-customizing.en.html (number 11.6)

So, is the problem that you are having that you need to enter in the ip address, etc into the xbox each time you start it up? You can set up the linux box to do dhcp on the card connected to the xbox, and then it will automatically provide that. Can you confirm that I understood you correctly? I can then get you instructions if that is what you want.
Regards, Jeff
