trouble with DNS/Network

i'm running mandrake 10 and i just did a clean install. i have dsl and i'm trying to get it running. everything seems to go through fine, but at this point i can only access ip address, no web addresses. i've modified my resolv.conf and added the same dns addresses that i use on my windows box (given to me by the tech support for my dsl). but even after doing that it still won't find web addresses.

when i'm in the mandrake control center and looking at the internet connections it shows my adsl connection but it says the status is "not connected" even though i can ping/visit ip addreses.

where am i going wrong?

oh by the way the dsl modem is routed through a small cheap switch to both my pc's....

the ip addresses are suppose to be automactic (dhcp) and i think i have it setup right on the linux box - it shows an ip address for the box that i didn't set up...

Did you indicate the gateway (adress of the dsl modem) in your config ? Also, how did you add nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf ?
correct syntax is :
nameserver 10.0.0.1
nameserver 10.0.0.2

i dunno what it was, but i removed the connection, redid it all as root and then edited the resolv.conf putting in my two dns servers and it works just fine now....

go figure....

thanks for the tips though...
