Hi,
I'm totally new to linux, and i've recently installed openSUSE 10.3. One of the first things I'm trying to do is connect to the internet; unfortunately it is proving to be a frustrating experience. My ISP is BSNL, I'm using a SmartAX MT841 (HUAWEI) modem (USB port connection). I'm afraid it's not possible for me to buy a LAN card (whatever that is). I've configured ethernet eth0 with IP 192.168.1.200 and subnet mask 255.255.0.0. I've installed the RP-PPPOE software and set it up with my username and password and eth0. However, whenever I type 'pppoe-start' it gives '.........TIMED OUT'. Also, going to
http://192.168.1.1/ in firefox doesn't work (it's supposed to give the modem configuration page, that's what it does under Vista). I'd be very grateful if one of you guys could help me out. If I can't configure the net, I'll have to give up on Linux altogether!
Thanks in advance.
