Traffic Shaping

Hello Firends,

I am new to linux, so I have some questions.
I'm using suse 11.1 and I'm trying to find a way to restrict the bandwith. And I have to do this via Iproute2/Iptables.
First question:
how do I should simulate my network with VMWare? In fact I want to use one of these machines as a router and send packets from one machine to another via this router.

Any help ps greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Please learn to use the search function. While it may surprise you a lot of questions have been asked already. There might even be tutorials. In short:
0. For Linux-as-a-router see http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/...onfiguration_0 or use your favorite search-engine and look for "linux router howto",
1. See "bandwidth shaping" at http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/...ndows_software (or search the fora), the http://lartc.org/ or search,
2. Install VMware Server, load an appliance from http://www.vmware.com/appliances/, or from http://www.oszoo.org/wiki/index.php/Category:OS_images or install a few guests yourself.

* If you're new to the whole GNU/Linux slash routing slash traffic shaping slash virtualization thing then you could make a checklist of key areas to research and read about. Makes it easier for you to keep track of things and ask more specific questions...
