Question traceroute

I am running slackware 9.1. I am on a cable modem. The connection is shared with a D-Link router (DI-604). It uses DHCP and the 1st hop is 192.168.0.1 (The router). Then after the router it goes to the cable modem, and it says it is timed out. I can browse the internet/ftp/play games etc. But the traceroute does not show any ping times after the first hop. Any ideas? Thanks

Specs: AMD 1800+ 256mb ram, 20gig, 80 gig, 2 cdrom, 1 nic card, Gforce 4, 19 inch monitor.

Here is the result of a normal traceroute..
bash-2.05b$ traceroute q3.quakeshit.com
traceroute to q3.quakeshit.com (207.115.47.136), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets
1 192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1) 0.315 ms 0.252 ms 0.292 ms

I tried it as root. It still times out after the first hop of 192.168.0.1. I'll have to read up on configuring iptables? i think it is? I am familiar with linux but do not know everything. Any suggestions on what to do to make traceroute show the rest of the hops with ping times would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The cable modem may block traceroute. It goes to the router, so you need to look into it closer. Browse it's manual. Maybe there's an interesting option you may try to make it work?
