tcpdump on switch


hello..i am working on port monitoring on switch. i got a dell powerconnect 3424 switch.can i capture all packet which go through certain port for example port 1 in the switch using tcpdump?!thanks or the help.

Yes, but you need to configure the switch to monitor that port and send the traffic to another port. It's usually called "port spanning".
