SWAT (Samba) "how to install" question

Red Hat 8 and Im missing swat from my Samba config.

I type in $ rpm -qa | grep samba and get everything but swat.....

i guess it isnt installed ..so, Ive downloaded the RPM for it ,(same version).

My question is: where do I install it to and how do I configure it all to intergrate with my existing Samba distro?

thanks for your help...

Jeff

jefx,

If you upgrade to rh9 you won't need SWAT. It has this program built in to configure samba for you. The program is even in windows-like start menu. All you have to do is create a user and specify your shares in the easy to use gui.

To answer your question jefx you should simply be able to:

rpm -Uvh swat*

Then start the swat service and you should be good to go. SWAT will automatically recognize samba upon install.

I had the same problem, I was missing the same file, and I tried uninstalling and resinstalling the services several times. Here is what I did, maybe it will help you?

I put the Red Hat CD #1 in, mounted it and used a terminal window and went to

/mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS

then did

rpm -i redhat-config-samba-1.0.4-1.noarch.rpm

And now it is installed and appears under System Settings ->Server Settings -> Samba Server.

Woo hoo! I originally posted needing help, now I have answered my own question. I rock! (just kidding).
