O.K., where to start. I have 2 computers setup, one running suse 9 and the other running xp. I'm trying to get the two to talk to each other. I've setup samba on the linux box, (per the reccomendations of a friend @ work) and that end seems to be working. From suse I can see the "allowed" files on the xp box. When I try to add a network drive on xp, it can't find the linux box. If I use puTTY, I can access the linux box fine. I'm trying to setup linux as a print/file server.
The problem is that I can't get XP to recognize my directory in SuSE as a network drive. Without that, I can't use save files/run programs or print to the SuSE box. Since Xp (or any flavor of win for that matter!) has a tendancy to "get stupid" and crash every once in a while, I thought SuSE would be a good place to keep important stuff!
right click my network places in XP go to properties and make sure NetBEUI and Client for Microsoft Networks and TCP/IP and all the other protocals you need are installed and configured correctly.
is the linux box listed in the network places?
try to catch by ip address from your explorer. something like:
\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (the ip of your linux box)
other than that check the permissions on the folders/files you are sharing. and the samba configuration of course.
