SuSE update caused "Unknown AUTHORIZATION state command"

I had pop3 working until I ran the SuSE 8.2 online update. Ever since then:

+OK POP3 ignernt.ignernt.com v2001.80 server ready
-ERR Unknown AUTHORIZATION state command
-ERR Unknown AUTHORIZATION state command

I cannot enter any commands at all to log in. Everything creates this error. I have seen on other boards that this is due to the fact that this version now will not accept plain text passwords. However, nobody will give up the actual solution to the issue.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Stig.
