Unhappy SUSE 7.1 telnet setup on a DHCP

I have setup my old PC to run linux using SUSE 7.1. Everything worked fine I thought until I tried to telnet to the PC from my Windows XP machine using the DOS command prompt. I can access the internet from both machines through my linksys router. I can ftp to the linux box from the XP box. However when I would try to telnet I got the following:

telnetd: getnameinfo.

Connection to host lost.

I accessed my router and moticed it had the info on my XP machine as far as hostname, mac address, etc. but it did not have it for my linux box.

At this point I don't know if it is a linux problem or router setup problem

Does anybody have a suggestion on where to go from here?
