well, every time I have tried to mount my den PC's smb shares i have gotten this error.

root@evanpc:~# smbclient //denpc/
added interface ip=192.168.254.4 bcast=192.168.254.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
Got a positive name query response from 192.168.254.2 ( 192.168.254.2 )

tree connect failed: ERRSRV - ERRinvnetname (Invalid network name in tree connect.)

now I dont have a username or password, so i just press enter at the pass prompt to specify a null password.
I used to think that the problem had to do with the fact that I didnt have any SMB shares originating from my linux PC, but now i have my SMB server working and I still have this problem.

so does anyone know what this means?

Not sure if this will do anything, but try and set an smb password on your root account, or any other account for that matter

Can you also paste your smb.conf

Another thing, how are you mouting your samba partition.

Try: mount -t smbfs //denpc/ /mnt/point
