ssh remote login

I want to use NX to remotely login to my computer through ssh. ssh is working since I can connect from computers on the local lan, but as soon as I connect from over the wan i get, ssh: connection refused. I've added: sshd: ALL : ALLOW to hosts.allow in /etc/. Why would ssh still refuse access?

Do you have port 22 open on your router or firewall?

Yes, I forwarded port 22 on the router and enabled ssh in the firewall (though the fact that it works over the network proves it can't be the firewall blocking it right?) Internet based tests has shown that port 22 is open.

What's in your hosts.deny? Is port 22 forwarding to the correct computer in your LAN? Are you using keys? Have you tried restarting your ssh service? Anything in the sshd_config that would point to you not being able to connect? Do you have iptables set up?

When you access it over your LAN or inside, it shouldn't even touch your outside firewall. So it depends on which firewall your talking about if they are not one in the same. Iptables on the host your trying to access or your outside firewall?

You mentioned:

If ssh works inside on the LAN and it doesn't work coming across the WAN. Then you probably have an issue with your port forwarding or a firewall rule (firewall being your perimeter firewall).
