ssh and jpg corruption

I am having problems with jpg corruption and general binary data corruption on my linux machine. I notice it a lot when I transfer using ssh. I don't see the same trouble when I transfer using samba share or ftp. I'm guessing it's the sshd, but I was wondering if someone else had this problem or if it's a sign of other troubles as well. I'm using a 500mhz athlon system to run red hat 7.3....
