I was wondering if anyone here knew how to setup a VPN with SmoothWall without buying the SmoothTunnel software. I just need to be able to have a friend or 2 gain access to the internal network. Anyone suggestions?
Same one I'm running. I've got the vpn option turned off. I'll turn it on this weekend and see what I can find. Will post results.
Did you download the docs? I've found them very well written and helpful.
I will look through the docs. The way I want to set it up is in a "road warrior" configuration, being that the people connecting won't have static IP's. Thanks for the help!
Did a quick read on the vpn chapter and it appears this establishes a connection between two smoothwall boxes. If the people you want to give access to have smoothwall installed it looks like it would be pretty easy to implement. An alternative offered on the page is an ssh connection with root and admin privileges. IMO, having remote root access is bad security practice but I could be wrong.
Thanks for the help! I found this other service on the internet, FreeS/WAN. It looks good, but i have yet to try it out. Also found a tutorial (dont laugh!) here if you want to try it out: http://www.metz.supelec.fr/metz/pers...adwarrior.html
