SMART_HOST Authentification for dummies

Hi guys!
I registered my email on gmail.com and I found it doesnot support SMTP_AUTH on port 25, but only on 587 (SMTP+TLS I beleive)
Please explain me how do I configure sendmail to act like a client for sending mail throug gmail as SMART_HOST. The most important thing is AUTH cause I'm realy dumb in it and I do not clearly understand what is TLS. Please help me

Yours, Oleksij
