Question Slow ping time to Linksys Default Gateway (RH 7.1)

Hello,

I am a newbie to RedHat Linux 7.1, well here goes.

I have a small LAN & have the Linksys 4 Port Router hooked up. My NT / Windows clients see the Linksys box with a default gateway of 192.168.1.1, when I ping from a command prompt
the pings to the Default Gateway are quick & responsive.
Also, I am able to browse the web with no problems or issues.

When I ping the Default Gateway which I have already setup as 192.168.1.1 in the network configuration in Linux, the response
times are very, very slow. Also, when I use the Netscape Navigator, pages load but very, very slowly & I usually get a stalled message on the bottom, in the status box.

I tried bypassing the Linksys box & plugging the ethernet cable from the DSL modem directly into the Linux machine & used DCHP as this is what my DSL provider uses, works great, no lags on pings to the Default Gateway, nor do I have the issue of web pages downloading slowly or stalling.

I have the IP address for the Linux machine as 192.168.101 & my
Default Gateway as 192.168.1.1 & I have the DNS addresses
that my DSL provider uses inputted.

Not sure what I am missing or overlooking on this one.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on this?

Thanks a lot,

Aaron

1 .Check ur Eternet cable.
2. Check any collission is there in Router (Monitor the collission Led)
3. Check the number of errors in the ethernet interface in ifconfing.

4. THe port may be faulty in ur linksys router. try to swap the port annd check..

Network Cable & Network Card is known to be good,
as it works on the other NT machine.

Same port & cable used on the W2K Server machine.
I have already ruled out the physical layer.

I still feel that something is not configured correctly
in the Linux TCP/IP, what, I couldn't tell you.

Thumbs up

Wierd,

Nothing like a good re-install to resolve issues that are really quirky like this!

Working as it should now!
