Simple Modem Installation Question

Hi Friends,
I am a newbie to linux and I need to surf the net from RH9.0.I have a high speed motorola surf usb modem sb5100...and i need to install it in linux.Can someone please tell me how to install a modem in linux...i have downloaded the necessary drivers..but dont know where to star with.
Please help me guys if you can.

If it's a .tar.gz file, untar it with

Code:

tar -zxvf driver_name.tar.gz

, if it's a tar.bz2 file, untar it with

Code:

tar -xjvf driver_name.tar.bz2

where driver-name is the name of the driver you want to install. After uncompressing it, refer to the README and/or INSTALL files for details related to the installation. Most probably it will be something like 'make' and 'make install' as root. You'll need the kernel source installed to compile/install the driver.
