sharing the internet connection of a windows xp computer...

Hi, im new to the unix/linux world and im trying to connect my linux computer to my xp computer to share the internet connection. Because of the limited resources on the computer, the XP computer has the ADSL internet connection.

The windows xp is set up to share the internet connection. I've set the IP address to 192.168.0.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0.

The linux computer is setup to have an IP address of 192.186.0.2 255.255.255.0 with a default gateways of 192.168.0.1 under the ethernet device settings.

I can browse to the XP computer's shared files folder and move files to and from the XP computer. but cannot browse the net on the linux computer.

I've tried all the settings with the proxies, browsing without a proxy, browsing with 192.168.0.1 as the proxy and browsing with the same proxy address on port 80, but having no luck!!!

Im able to ping the XP computer from the Linux computer and vice versa....

What am i doing wrong? what can i do next? if you want more details then ask and i'l try and give them

Thanks

On the xp box, try this. Right click on "My Network Places", select properties. Select the interface to the internet connection and right click, selecting properties, click the advanced tab, and make sure internet connection sharing is enabled. If this is enabled, see if enabling routing and remote access helps
