Sharing Printers with Samba

Hi Everyone,

I have a question regarding sharing a printer on a Fedora Core 5 system using Samba. I currently have Samba configured to share several directories, which works fine. I also set up a shared printer on the Linux system, which I was able to print to until recently.

Now, I am able to see the shared printer on my Windows XP systems, but whenever I try to print to it the software that I am trying to print from hangs. I checked the printer configuration on the Fedora system, and everything looks fine, and I'm able to print from Linux. I've tried restarting the smb and cups services with no luck. Are there any common events that could make a previously working printer share cease working?

Thanks,
Ian

Check the printer properties on the windows box. Does it point to the fedora box with the correct printer share name? Does the print test page run successfully?

Have you changed anything recently on the Fedora box. Updates? Are you using a static or dynamic IP?

Thanks for the response.

The printer configuration on several Windows boxes was unchanged from the time it was working to when it stopped working. To try to resolve the problem, I uninstalled the printer on one Windows box, then browsed to the Fedora box using network neighborhood, then reinstalled the printer by right-clicking the share and choosing "Connect", so the Windows printer should be pointing to the correct share. All boxes are using static IP addresses. The Windows test page does not print successfully. No updates have been installed on the Fedora box.
