Sharing a directory between two laptops

I have a directory in my home directory that I wish to share.

Here's the set up,

I have two laptops both running Linux (Fedora) which are both connected to a router. Is it possible for me to network them via the router and allow one to gain access to another's directories..?

They both use KDE as their desktop if there's an easy way to do this..?

i'd suggest just setting up a really simple nfs share here, no need for the more complex samba server configurations. just add an entry to one machine's /etc/exports file saying "/dir/to/export 1.2.3.4(rw)" where 1.2.3.4 is the ip address of the other machine. then when you restart nfs on that machine it will be accessible from the other.

Okay... Is that possible through a router? That's what they're connect via... Or would I need to connect them via spare Ethernet ports..?

Also... How can I determine each laptop's IP address..? This, I'm guessing, is a LAN I'm trying to create?

yes this is possible with two computers on the other sides of the world. if you can ping one machine from another then that's a working lan. it's sounding like you are at a much earlier stage than you hinted at in the first place. what is this router? if it's a simple adsl router or such like, this is likely to be providing dhcp so you machines quite probably already have valid addresses and are ready to roll. check the output of /sbin/ifconfig on each machine for their IP's.
