Setup dhcp3

It looks like a lot of people have had the same problem as me but from what I searched nothing I did help... what am trying to do is setup dhcp3 on my debian box and the only thing that its going to be connected to (for now) is just a switch with no access to the internet. When I try to start/restart it I get “dhcpd3 failed to start - check syslog for diagnostics.”

/etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf
Quote:
authoritative;
ddns-update-style interim;

subnet 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
range 192.168.0.100 192.168.0.250;
default-lease-time 518400;
option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0;
option broadcast-address 192.168.0.255;
}
/etc/default/dhcp3-server
Quote:
INTERFACES="eth0"
/var/log/syslog
Quote:
Wrote 0 leases to leases file.
dhcpd:
dhcpd: No subnet declaration for eth0 (0.0.0.0).
dhcpd: ** Ignoring requests on eth0. If this is not what
dhcpd: you want, please write a subnet declaration
dhcpd: in your dhcpd.conf file for the network segment
dhcpd: to which interface eth0 is attached. **
dhcpd: Not configured to listen on any interfaces!
And yes I am a networking/Linux noob

Thanks

right... you don't even have an IP address on that interface? your basic networking isn't even up yet. one step at a time...

you do know you can't serve dhcp to yourself right?
