Question setting up dns server

I would like to set up a dns caching server on a Linux computer. I have never done this before, but I need some way for the 300 machines that are at or site to surf faster. I have been told that hosting my own dns caching server would help this out.
Can anyone point me to a site that would instruct me on how to set this server. I am new to linux and haven't spent much time with it. I can set up a server and get it running and delivering web pages, etc.
Thanks in advance!
