setting up default page in apache

I'm new to linux and I'm trying to set up apache web server. I'm using redhat 9.0 I would like to know how do I set up a default web page. Right now when I enter the ip of the apache server the default test page keeps coming up I'd like for that page to be replaced with my home page.

I could be wrong, but I believe the default name of the home page needs to be index.html. Hope that helps.

Check your httpd.conf file and look for your apache root directory. If you compiled and installed it by yourself it's usually /path/to/apache/htdocs/.
In this directory you will copy your files and delete the old ones that include the apache test page.

In httpd.conf look also for something like: DirectoryIndex index.html. If a directory is requested in a browser, apache will load this file. It can also be index.php or something else.
