Question sendmail telnet port

I seem to remember reading somewhere about a port you could telnet into on a *nix box that was sendmail, no login/password required, but could only be used for sending and receving mail, I'm pretty sure this trik was used for email spoofing, if anybody knows what i'm talking about i'd be interested to know so i can tinker with it on my YDL box.

the port is 25, enter the following command:
telnet ipaddr 25

where ipaddr=the ip address of the machine that you want to telnet into
