samba server not showing up from any other comps in my network

im trying to set up a file server fo my network using samba, ive been trying for a couple of days now and have not had any success.

-my network is on a linksys wireless broadband router
-my server is running fedora core 3 and is hardwired to the router
-my main desktop computer is also running fedora core 3 and hard wired to the router
-two other computers os my family's are running windows xp and are wireless

Here is what i have in the configuration file:

# Samba config file created using SWAT
# from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1)
# Date: 2005/02/12 17:09:08

1. I am able to ping the ip address of the server and get a response from all the computers, but i cannot see anything in network neighborood in xp or the windows network folder in linux. Ive tried naming the workgroup mshome which is the workgroup name of my xp machines and now i am getting an error saying i dont have permission to access anything in the workgroup now even things i had mapped before i installed the server and even after i turn it off and it has a different network name.

2. Also, now when i try to add users in the samba server configuration they dont show up in the list, then when i try to add it again, it says its already there.

Should i be able to at least see the the server is there even though a computer dosnt have a username for it? Any help would be appreciated. thanks...
