Question Samba Question

Hi All,

I have a simple workgroup of 3 PCs: 1- Linux 7.2, 1- Linux 7.3, and 1- Win NT 4.0 WS. I want the 7.2 to act as a file and print server.

Do I need to setup Samba (SMB.cfg) on both Linux systems?

Thanks,

Vince

definately the smb.conf needs to be modified

then smb services need to be started.

service smb {start/restart/status/stop} only one of these commands

status will tell you if its running the rest explain them selves

you may need to add users to smb

eg: smbadduser fred

I've never really set up samba much. But if you are just using the samba client programs on one machine then I don't think you'd need the smb.conf file. As far as I can see in the manpages it's only used for the samba servers. But maybe I just need to use it to find out more about that.

If you are not planning to use file and print services, nor plan on making either linux box a PDC or BDC, then you only need to modify smb.conf on your RH 7.2 box. You can use the shares via mount -t smbfs on your 7.3 box.
