Post Samba on NT domain

hey guys/gals

I've been reading a tutorial on adding a samba client to the NT domain, and read that I need a computer account created on the PDC. Now I am dual booting and my PC number is PC55400 and this logs onto the NT domain - my question is will I need to create a separate account if the linux machine has the same hostname?

PS: Why on an install of Linux that is dual booting does it pick up the NT Hostname as default?

Cheers

The NT domain isn't picking up an NT name, it's picking up the NetBIOS name. The NetBIOS name is associated with the network interface card's Mac address.

Ultimately, all messages are delivered to a Mac address. All other addresses (IP address, etc.) are go-betweens to get a message to a Mac address.

If you name your Linux box with the same name as the NetBIOS name, then the association between the name and the Mac address will be the same whether you boot to Windows or Linux.
