Question samba ( post #1)

I was running mandrake 9.0 with samba 2.2

my unix can't mount any other machine nor can any other machine see my linux box, why?

I set everything up exactly they way i had it and it doesn't work.

here's my smb.conf i have used for years witk mandrake 9.0 and samba 2.2

This may sound simple and ridiculous, but have you ensured that samba is running?

When you start it, check the logs, ensure that it has start properly.

Try runing testparm to verify the config.

hope this helps...
lemme know...

try the command 'smbclient -L localhost' (less quotes , type in your smb password, and review the output. All shares will be listed.

Also, as it sounds like you upgraded to a newer version, you may need to setup your smb user accounts again.
From a root account, type 'smbpasswd -a' xxxxusernamexxxxxxx (less quotes This will make a smb user account for your username.

Hope this helps!

thanks for the input but yes smbd and nmbd is running

as far as the testperm everything comes out ok.

you can also do a smbclient -NL localhost which displays the same info as -L

also I have added all the users already and that isn't it either smbpasswd -a username

I checked out the firewall using shorewall and is correctly configed with ports 137/tcp 137/udp 138/tcp 138/udp 139/tcp 139/udp
i want as far as opening 445/tcp 445/udp

no luck

i also have this as a router as i did in 9.0, eth0 internet eth1 subnet i can reach the internet on all machines and is working correctly.

i have noticed some other files needed in 10.0 for samba such as
perl-Authen-smb-0.91-3mdk
libsmbclient0-3.0.2a-3mdk

again i cant stess enough that this smb.conf file i used for years in mandrake 7.2 pro, 8 power pack and 9.0 free and worked great.
something has changed in 10.0 that is crippling this from working. probably something simple as usual.

if anyone needs to see any other of my config files to help diagnos this prob just let me know which one.

again thanks for the support and please feel free to leave more for it still isn't working
