Hi all,
OK, it's been so damn long since I've had to actually work on my linux server that I think I've forgotten more than I ever knew in the first place! ;-)
Anyway, here's the deal. On my linux server (named goliath) I have a user "chris" (that's me) and the home directory for that user is /home/chris.
I also have a user "www" whose home directory /home/www.
Easy enough. I run Samba on goliath. On my PC, I
had two drive mappings, one to the chris directory and one to the www directory.
Then my PC died and I had to rebuild it. Once done, I attempted to remap both those drives. Nothing.
So I try to create a mapping in XP to the \\goliath\www directory... When asked for credentials to the www directory from the XP PC, I get literally nothing. For the username, I put in
goliath\www and the password. No errors, no nothing. Just no mapping!
When I try to map to the \\goliath\chris directory, however I actually do get an error. Two actually. Obviously, this time I try to login as
\\goliath\chris with that password. I get the following error:
Quote:
The network folder specified is currently mapped using a different user name and password. To connect using a different user name and password, first disconnect any existing mappings to this network share.

I click OK as it's my only choice. Then I get:
Quote:
The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred:
Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than on user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again.

HUH?! Horse pellets! First of all, nothing's mapped. At all. Secondly, I know the passwords are correct because I just changed them after the first time it didn't work because I thought that might have been the problem! Thirdly, I've even gone so far as to restart goliath. That would have severed any connections.
This makes no sense to me, and I need these drives, especially the www directory, on my PC.
Help!
Thanks!
Chris
