Samba

Hello,
i really seem to get nowhere with samba, i what to make a network neigbourhood with my XP Pro and i also want to replace my MS DC with samba.
Is it difficult? Is there a good howto not 1000 pages but just strait and forward...
Maybe i should have put this in 2 different posts but it maybe similare in some ways.
Also, i am in front of my systems, they all boot in the 4 os for my tests (98, w2k server, xp pro and linux) so if someone can lead me into this, it can probably end up to be a very usefull thread.

Thks

Ok first i find a tutorial but the the last revision is april1999. But i think it can be a short and strait forward one.
Here, it is named SambaServer, Step-by-step guide:
http://www.commentcamarche.com/ccmdo...?url=samba.pdf
Can someone tell me what they think of that tutorial?

Have you had no luck with setting up your Samba stuff through either SWAT or WEBMIN? I found these to be quite a nice way of doing it (I prefer Webmin).

quite an easy job:

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/w....030-1.src.rpm
then right clic and install
the access is thru http://127.0.0.1:10000 and login user root.
access server and samba window file sharing.
I name Share name: SAMBAshare and then
Create a new file share: i browsed and create /home/public than clic on create.
I than restart the server (buttom of the page...)

OK, i find it! I had to edit the GLOBAL CONFIGURATION : SMB windows Networking / Put the workgroup, server name (does it needs to be the same of the pc?)and server description.
My default service: SAMBAshare
Save and restart service
Access view thrue : START/search/computer/a computer/i give no name and i start the seach: i've got it...
AND HERE IS MY PROBLEM:
clic on SAMBAserv and it ask for password and user name:
i try root with my password, it comes back with the loggin screen again but with the (pcname/loggin-name): i try again and that screen keeps on popping back.... sh....
This is where i need a hand, same as my previous tries. :^(
