Samba defaults to using the "hostname" as it's shared netbios name. Override this in the [gloabl] section with:

netbios name = someothername

Maybe it's just a misunderstanding on what you're trying to achieve. By setting netbios name you're defining the machine name other PC's on the local LAN see this server as. If the hostname is "stuff" and you don't set a "netbios name" entry in smb.conf then a shared disk on the server might be accessed via another PC as \\stuff\shareddisk If however you set this:

netbios name = main

Then other PCs can access the server with \\main\shareddisk

So, is that your question and what you're trying to accomplish or not?

I'm not trying to change the name of my computer on the network i'm trying to change the domain that the computer is in. When i view the shares that my linux box is outputing with a windows box the windows box does not see the linux box as being a part of it's workgroup it sees it as being in another group called ARBEITSGRUPPE i want it to belong to the workgroup/domain DAMAGED.
