redhat 9 networking

Ive installed redhat 9 on two computers, a PII 400 and an Amd athlon. Every time i load linux, the nics are disabled, so i have to activate them. Ive set the TCP/IP and gateway addresses (they worked with win98 so they should work with linux). The computers arnt networking.Ive set up the server, typed in the ip address on my windows computer, but it sits there and does nothing for about a minute then says the page cannot be accessed.
Is there a step-by-step guide or something out there?

Read this:
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...rkscripts.html

Also try the "netconfig" command. Beyond that... did you put a firewall on the system when you installed it?

i have the firewall disabled on both computers. On the dell, if i try to ping my Amd computer, it says if i want to ping the broadcast address use -b and wont let me ping it. The amd can try to ping the dell, but it is unresponsive.
