redhat 8.0 and windows xp

heres what im trying to do

cablemodem----->linux------->hub----->other windows computers

i have two nics in linux oen is going to cable modem and the other to a hub and fromt the hub there are other windows computers connected to it

so...eth0 is working just wonderfully thats how im talking to you guys right now.....

eth1 (the connection to the hub and therefore windows) will not work. when i try booting up the computer says

Eth0..........OK
Eth1.........Determining IP adress FAILED

in terminal under root i typed ifconfig and eth0 came up with an ip address but eth1 did not..this tells me that dhcp is not working, therefore, the connection isnt evenmaking its way out of the NIC...any ideas?

You can't use dhcp back into a workstation network, if there isn't a dhcp server in there to talk to...
& You certainly don't want to use the RH8 box as a gateway if it's ip number can change!!!
Best make it static so the workstations have a reliable gateway number to use.
