Question Red Hat ifconfig trouble

I am trying to use the ifconfig command on my redhat 7.3 but the shell doesnt seem to recognize the command.

im using the bash shell

the error message is

bash: ifconfig: command not found

does anyone know why Im getting this message and how I can make the shell recognize it?

My network connections are all up and fine....its just that command that Im having trouble with.

Ok I soved some of my problem. If I type /sbin/ifconfig at the command prompt, the output from ifconfig is displayed.

My new question is, how can I make it so I can just type ifconfig without having to type /sbin/ifconfig

side note: I am able to do all of this as a regular user Im not doing any of this as root.

You can add /sbin to your path. In the .bashrc file in your home directory, add the line:
PATH=$PATH:/sbin

then restart bash or type:
source .bashrc

you should have /sbin as part of your path now.
