Smile red had or suse is best to be used as a server



an advise is needed
i am finding problem in configuring my old fashion red hat 7.0 server
so i need to up grade and after yr experience what to choose as a software between red had or suse or else .
option needed :
session limitation .
bandwidth limitation .
locking ip to mac addresses .
squid to be used as cache engine .

Well ANYTHING listed here doesn't rely on a specific distribution! You could go with (almost) ANY distribution if you want those. There's no significant difference between RedHat and S.u.S.E in those things ...

I hate these types of questions cause there is no real answer. Setting up a server is dependant upon the admin and whoever sets it up. Like markus said, any distro will work, its just how you set it up to work for you. They are all in the same essence with any distro that you decide to use.

yes that what i want to say trickykid

whish one of these too is easyer to configure for a newbees
knowing that i have no back ground for linux , only a small experience in RH 7.0 sofar is working good but still i cant in eny way to deal with the cbq .
and yes nick
about the mandrake i know it is good too but how can i shoose between them and i dont know nothing about them?

you mean it dosent matter whish softwar i use the specific distribution is what dose matter

RedHat was once built as a server-oriented distro, so i would recommend it and you have some experiences with it, too.
SuSE has Yast, but that doesn't fit everybody.

So stay with RedHat and go to know it better

Download all the the Distros and benchmark their network protcols by real-life situations. Though it is sometimes go with the distro that you know how to setup.
