Question about VNCserver, and another about hostnames
Hello,
Still rather new to linux, so forgive me if these two questions are stupid. These questions pertain to my efforts to configure a box running Fedora Core 3 in the Xwindows environment.
QUESTION#1: I have set up vncserver tunneling through ssh, and can connect to the box remotely. However, I cannot get the geometry setting in the xstartup file to supply me with the desired (1280x1024) resolution at my remote desktop. The default geometry setting was 80x24+10+10, yet the vncserver manpage says that it should be something more like 1024x780. What does the "+10+10" do, and why is it truncated to 80x24?
QUESTION#2: I am automatically obtaining my IP address with dhcp, and the computer is defaulting to an ugly hostname (something like udp 012415uds). I tried entering an alternate hostname in the settings box of the network configuration tool, but it had no effect on the hostname readout. Can I somehow name the computer something more user-friendly, and if so how?
Thanks!
