Proftp on Slax Change Anonymous Home DIR

Hi All,

I am trying to setup an FTP server for my internal use (no outside firewall access). I am using SLAX which comes with proftp. The ftp server works fine until I try to change the anonymous' users home directory. When I make the change, I can no longer login into the ftp server. I receive a 530 error Cannot set anonymous privledges.

I am making the change in the proftpd.conf file:
<Anonymous /mnt/ftpfiles>

/mnt/ftpfiles is a directory I have created. It is mounted to /mnt/disc0part1.

/mnt/disc0part1 is an automatically created directory when slax boots.

It is my hard drive.

I can change into these directories (either) as root and see all the files there. Slax gets its configuration file from the /mnt/disc0part1 directory.

I cannot figure out how to give anonymous access to these directories. Anyone?

I have tried giving the access to the user account "ftp"--this does not work.

I have tried creating a user (rusty) and logging in as that user--that does not work. It says the password is wrong everytime. I thought if I could login with a user other than anonymous then I could change the directory permissions after that. Even that does not work. I can login into the box locally as a user (rusty), but when I try to ftp in I get an incorrect password. Also, I have tried to chown the /mnt/ftpfiles and the /mnt/disc0part1 directories to the user (rusty), but the user cannot access those directories.

I know this all has to do with permissions, but I am guessing there must be something I am missing. I do not know if it is specific to proftp, slax, or just Linux in general. So if anyone knows anyway to make this work. Please Help!!!
