problem with telnet - please help

Hi guys.

I have trouble connecting to another machine with telnet. You may give me a hint. Please take a look.

I've installed the latest Red Hat on one of the computers at home.
From another one (running Win) I telnet to the first one but I get:

telnet 192.168.0.4
Connecting To 192.168.0.4...Could not open connection to the host, on port 23.
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

I can telnet to port 80, where an Apache is running, no problem.

I presume there's no problem with the firewall - I disabled it with 'iptables stop'.

From the same Linux box I can telnet to the same box - it works - i.e. the telnet daemon is running. I presume that for secirity reasons telnet-ing from a remote machine on port 23 is disabled. How can I make it work?

Thanks,
Adrian

Welcome to LQ.

By default RedHat 9 doesn't install telnet it installs ssh which is much more secure. Try ssh instead - there is a free windows ssh client called putty available from:
