Exclamation Problem with Linux server in Windows Network

Hello All,

I am semi-new to linux and am also the network admin of a small company that have 10 windows servers and 1 linux server.

Recently we began having a problem.....

Our linux server acts as our firewall, About 2 days ago our internet access became very slow and then stopped... On both the Linux server and the Windows Network. I did the normal checks and rebooted the server with no luck, So I wait a few hours and the problem fixes it self on the Linux server, However we still do not have any internet on the Windows Network.

The linux server can ping any server on the internet and can ping the windows workstations.... The windows workstations can ping the linux server.

Upon reboot I noticed that the firewall had failed to start because of a missing firewall conf file and that the DHCPD.conf file was missing. Now, Im not sure if they ever started right as I have never really messed with this box.

Now my question is, Does anyone have any idea why my Windows boxes have no internet???

Thank you for any help you can provide!!!!!

- Ryan

Can the Windows boxes ping servers on the internet by IP? Try pinging 64.179.4.149 (Linuxquestions.org). If so then you are having a name resolution problem. If not then the router may not be forwarding IP packets as it should. What is the output of:
On the Linux server:

#ifconfig
#cat /etc/resolv.conf
#lsmod | grep ip_nat
#ps -A | grep dnsmasq

On one of the windows boxes:

c:\>ipconfig

We should be able to figure out what the problem is with this. ifconfig will display your public IP so you may want to replace the numbers with *'s or something.
