ok i have loaded fedora linux 10 and i have set it up ok to make it a server using webmin as the server software the problem i have is when i try and set the router which is a linksys befsr41 and the linux box. i have run in to a problem. i set the router to do dhcp and then i set my linux box to static address the router is set for address is 192.168.1.1 and the information i was going by to set up server said i needed to set that address as the ip of the eth card the probelm i get is the error at start up other server is using ip address 192.168.1.1 eth stopped. how can i set it up to allow the other computer on the internet to be set automaticly and the server to set a static address with dns service being done by zoneedit.com and iam going through aol as my isp. iam lost please help iam running this server on a laptop dell system.
If you can't configure the router (change its IP) the only method would be to use a far address for the server (like 192.168.1.250) - because your DHCP probably starts from the beginning and if you don't have too many machines, it has no chance to reach the server's address. In most cases you have also a method to choose the addresses for DHCP (on the DHCP server, it's probably your router).
