Preventing a network interface from starting at startup?

Hi all. Long time since I been here. Well I've had it with Windows XP. It'll no longer activate with my product key so screw them. I'm back with Linux (mandriva 2006) and back for good.

I have a problem however (well I've had a few but I think i've solved them). When I boot up the OS brings up eth0, eth1 and sit0. eth1 is the Ethernet port. My computer won't connect to the network whilst eth0 is up so I have to keep manually deleting it from the configuration screen.

How do I prevent it from starting up in the first place? I can't seem to find any straight forward info on the subject.

Cheers.

edit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 and change ONBOOT=yes to the obvious.

Hi thanks for the reply. It's actually eth0 I want to change but there's no ifcfg-eth0. Do I create one?

hmm, i guess mandriva changed their conventions. when i used to use it they were still using the original redhat locations and scripts.

ifcfg-eth1 is where you say it is but there's no ifcfg-eth0. Do I need to create a ifcfg-eth0 in that directory with the ONBOOT=no option?

edit: I created an ifcfg-eth0 file in that directory with DEVICE=eth0 and ONBOOT=no. It has worked and no longer starts up.
