Possibly to use another modem for qwest?

Hey

My modem for my Qwest DSL is basically dead..I have an older westell versalink modem that I got from old verizon DSL. Can I configure it to work with Qwest? I'm thinking it's probably possible..but I'm not exactly sure what I need to do to get it working with Qwest.

What type of information will I need to give this other modem? I have no router..just one modem going into my network card. It uses DHCP to obtain an ip and such.

Help appreciated..thanks.

It depends. If you used this modem in the same location then in IMHO it should work. If from another location then I could not say because there are several different techniques for modulation. I would assume that if from the same location the telephone CO still maintaines the same equipment.

You would not have to change any configuration settings on the computer.

Well, I changed it to PPoA...added my username and password...and it attempts to connect, but says authorization failed...invalid password/username.

Strange...because I type it in correctly.

something you might want to check is the encapsulation and make sure that it is correct

Just for the record, I got this working. For some reason, the verizon modem didnt like the @qwest.net at the end of the username..when the qwest modem required it. Strange!
