port is not being forwarded in linux

im fairly new to linux, i've installed Mandrake 10.1 official on my IBM Thinkpad T40.

I'm trying to run the BitTorrent client, Azureus. All works well, but I get the yellow smilies on all my torrents, indicating a NAT problem. i'm dual-booting with windows, and my router is setup to forward the appropriate port, and i've always had green smilies in windows.
i've also verified the ip address on network device eth0 (my ethernet card) to be the same as that in windows.

my only guess at this point is there's some sort of firewall in mandrake, which i seem to have trouble finding.
i checked the firewall settings in the Configure Your Desktop app, and made sure 'Everything' was clicked (no firewall).

any ideas?

Thank you very much

Hi,

As for firewalling
any kind of firewall under linux uses netfilter. So as to check if one is configured, try "iptables -vL" at the prompt, with root priviledges. You should have an output explaining that the default policy for each chain is ACCEPT (if you didn't understand, then just look 3 times for the accept word .

It may not be a firewall problem :
you configured port forwarding all right, but if there's no server software listening to the port, then forwarding won't work... are you sure that you enabled the inux daemons equivalents t oyour win services ?

Try

echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

That command is necessary, only if the data goes THROUGH your Linux box from a modem/router to another PC, not if the Linux box is an end point. (it enables forwarding packets from an interface to another, it may not be your case)
