Internet Sharing


I just want every1 to know I'm very new to linux. The way I want to setup my network is have my modem, then go to my linux gateway, then my wired/wireless router. I want to have a gateway with multiple nics running suse 9.1. The question I have is will having a linux gateway make my network safer, and second , how can I config suse to forward the internet from nic1 to nic 2.

EDIT: sorry about title, I ment Internet Sharing, I dont know why I put port forwording

Not unless you have some good experience securing Linux. If you're not sure what you're doing then you may leave security holes that can be exploited. I'm not trying to scare you, just letting you know what your in for. Securing Linux isn't too difficult as long as you are willing to do your homework.

You use NAT to do this, which is provided by some kernel modules and the iptables user-space command. This is the same iptables that is used for creating firewall rules.
