ping : 37%packets lost !!!!!!


i am using fedora core 2.
my problem is ehternet card is detected but. NET , LAN,FTP r not working..
it shows all entries correct (i guess so! coz the same thing is showing in my frds comp too..whr LAN is working)
when i ping to my comp its fine ..but whne i ping my gateway ..it shows some packets lost :

SO THIS IS THE PROBLEM ....
1 more thing in sbin/ifconfig eth0 :::
base address is not constant always..after each boot..once it showed 0x2000.

PLZ HELP>...!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am using WIN XP on the same machine...NEt works fine in Win Xp..it only creates problem in linux..
so i dont think thr is any problem with Hub or cable ???????????

using hub 100 Mbps..LAN...ehternet card dp83815

i changed my LAN waire but still error packets r thr..altho in less no...

is it possible tht same cable wire work for Xp but it fials in LINUX ??????

anyway thanks for ur info.
plz help if u get anything regarding this problem...

Sounds like NTL Hell tonite, I am getting packet drops on all routes

plz change your NIC's link speed or duplex mode to 10 or 100 ful mode or 10 or 100 half mode.this may solve the problem u can use mii-tools to do this.

what speed is your nic set to? what speed is your network set to? full or half duplex? what driver are you using for your nic?

how do we check NIC's speed ??? on fedora core2 .and how tp get idea abt ntwoks is wether duplex or halflex....??? ...actually i am new to linux ...
anyway the same problem i was facing in Mandrake 10 .also then installed FEDORA core2.
btw last night ...i tried with a different LAN wire.....and
errors packates r still thr but less in number..but i CAAAAAAAAN connect to net...at very slow speed ...
so current scenaro is ..while pinging error packets r thr ,,,,but i can connect to net @slow speed..
